Launched - Fit for the future - the green homes retrofit manual
Produced by the National Affordable Homes Agency, this guidance pulls together in one place key information in order to improve the environmental performance of a house. While the document is intended for 'social landlords' in order to improve their existing housing stock, it is a good summary of the different options available (including examining the positive and negative aspects).

Biffa and Carlsberg Launch UK Glass Recycling Solution
Carlsberg UK this week became the first brewer to launch a glass recycling solution for publicans. The innovative scheme, Carlsberg Green, will save the average pub owner over £460 per year, and up to £586 per year once the Landfill Tax escalator increases in April 2008. Carlsberg Green is also an easy way for pubs to help the environment. Carlsberg customer operations manager Tony Richman said: “The trial went well and uptake was what we expected. We’ll continue to do promotions of the scheme as well as getting feedback from licensees offered the trial service to find out why they didn’t sign up. “We are also continuing to look at a similar take back scheme specifically for festivals for cans and that type of thing. “One thing we did note from the trial was the need to get across the financial savings of the scheme more. In the initial literature the point wasn’t made as strongly as it could have been, so we will make more of the cost savings in the national roll out promotion. We think that customers may become more aware of the costs saving opportunities as their commercial waste bills start to increase this month, following the budget.”
